Türkiye & Qatar Sign New Trade Facilitation Deals
Türkiye and Qatar have signed 11 new cooperation agreements, in meetings co-chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The deals were signed at the eighth meeting of the Supreme Strategic Committee in Istanbul on Friday,
The agreements cover cooperation in various fields, including diplomacy, media, trade, culture and disaster and emergency management and followed one-on-one talks on bilateral and regional issues.
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavushoglu and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also signed the joint statement of the committee following the meetings.
Trade Minister Mehmet Mush and Qatar’s Public Health Minister Hannan bint Mohammed Al Quwari inked an agreement between the Halal Accreditation Institution of Türkiye and its corresponding institution in Qatar, improving the Halal bilateral certification recognition and the ability to trade in Halal products.
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank and his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani signed a cooperation agreement on patent and copyright, while an agreement between Türkiye’s Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) and Qatar’s State Communications Institution was inked by Transport Minister Adil Karaismailoglu and Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Turkiye and Qatar have strong economic relations, which culminated in agreements in the energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, military equipment, and tourism fields.
In 2021, bilateral trade between Qatar and Turkiye reached US$2.28 billion, while Turkish exports to Qatar amounting to US$568,198 and imports at US$1.719 billion.
Total Qatari investments in Turkiye amounted to around US$33.2 billion by the end of 2020, while 535 Turkish companies are operating in Qatar in various fields, especially in the construction sector and the upcoming World Cup soccer finals. The value of the contribution of Turkish construction companies to infrastructure projects in Qatar has reached US$18.3 billion through the implementation of 146 projects.
There are approximately 182 Qatari companies in Turkiye, with Qatari investment capital reaching US$33 billion.
The main products that Qatar exports to Turkey are Raw Aluminium, Ethylene Polymers and Refined Petroleum. The main products that Turkey exports to Qatar are Furniture items, Iron Structures and Felt and Coated Fabric Garments.
