Gulf Cities Rank Among the Safest in the World, Numbeo Report Reveals
Gulf cities – led by those in the UAE, Qatar, and Oman – have ranked among the safest in the world, according to the latest index from Numbeo, a global online database that evaluates urban living conditions.
The latest rankings from Numbeo’s Safety Index for 2024 confirm that Gulf cities continue to set global benchmarks for safety and security. Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, was once again named the world’s safest city for the eighth consecutive year, achieving an impressive Safety Index score of 88.1. The emirate leads a list dominated by Gulf cities, reinforcing the region’s reputation for public safety and quality of life.
Gulf cities ranked safest in top 10
Numbeo, a global online database that evaluates urban living conditions, ranked multiple cities from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) among the world’s safest. The top 10 cities in the 2024 Safety Index include:
- Abu Dhabi, UAE – 88.1
- Ajman, UAE – 85.3
- Dubai, UAE – 83.9
- Sharjah, UAE – 83.9
- Taipei, Taiwan – 83.8
- Ras al-Khaimah, UAE – 83.8
- Doha, Qatar – 83.7
- Muscat, Oman – 81.1
- The Hague, Netherlands – 79.5
- Trondheim, Norway – 79.3
Muscat: A safe and growing capital
Oman’s capital, Muscat, ranks as the seventh safest city out of 382 global cities analyzed in the report. With a Safety Index score of 81.1, Muscat continues to gain recognition for its low crime rates, secure public spaces, and high standards of living. The report highlights that crimes such as mugging, vandalism, drug offenses, and physical assaults are minimal in the Omani capital, making it a preferred destination for residents and tourists alike.
Beyond safety, Muscat is also undergoing significant development, with large-scale projects aimed at boosting economic and tourism growth. The city’s commitment to sustainable and comprehensive development further enhances its appeal as a secure and thriving urban center.
Abu Dhabi: A global benchmark for safety and liveability
As the world’s safest city, Abu Dhabi has maintained its reputation for low crime rates and a high quality of life. According to Numbeo’s data, the city’s Crime Index stands at a remarkably low 11.94, reinforcing its commitment to public security and efficient law enforcement. Residents of Abu Dhabi enjoy high levels of safety both during the day and at night, with minimal concerns about crime-related risks.
The emirate’s strong infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and urban planning further contribute to its ranking. With over 3,323 healthcare facilities, 67 hospitals, and more than 12,900 licensed doctors, Abu Dhabi provides world-class healthcare services that enhance its overall liveability.

The rankings underscore the Gulf region’s collective efforts in maintaining secure and well-managed urban environments. Other UAE emirates, including Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras al-Khaimah, alongside Doha in Qatar and Muscat in Oman, reflect the region’s broader dedication to public safety, economic stability, and sustainable urban development.
